Understanding the Difference Between High Fire and Low Fire Printing Methods

At Crystal Galleries, we offer a range of printing techniques to ensure that your awards, gifts and glassware are decorated to your exact specification. Two of the methods we use are High Fire Colour Printing and Low Fire Colour Printing. Each method has its own unique benefits and is suited for different types of products and uses. We’ll explain the key differences between these methods, helping you choose the right one for your needs.

Low Fire Colour Printing

Low fire colour printing is an ideal choice for customers who need specific colour matching, including Pantone colours. This method involves applying a decal transfer to the glass and firing it at a lower temperature. The result is a vibrant and accurate colour reproduction, perfect for pieces that require precise branding or colour consistency.

When to Choose Low Fire Printing:

  • Pantone Colour Matching: If you have specific brand colours or need exact Pantone matches, this is the method for you.

  • Display Items: Low fire printing is ideal for awards and glassware that will be showcased, rather than handled frequently.

  • Bright and Vibrant Colours: This process offers a wider range of colours and allows for more detail in design, making your awards stand out.

High Fire Colour Printing

High fire colour printing is known for its durability and permanence. In this process, the glass is fired at much higher temperatures, resulting in a more resilient finish. However, due to these higher temperatures, the range of colours is more limited, and Pantone colour matching is not possible.

When to Choose High Fire Printing:

  • Durability: If your glassware or awards will be handled frequently or exposed to wear and tear, high fire printing offers a long-lasting solution that won’t fade or degrade over time.

  • Fewer Colour Options: Although the colour range is more limited, this method ensures that the colours are deeply embedded in the glass, making the design more durable.

  • High Traffic Items: This process is perfect for items that will be regularly used, such as glassware or trophies that may be handled often.

Which Method Should You Choose?

When deciding between high fire and low fire printing, consider the purpose of the item and the importance of colour matching or durability. If you need your awards or gifts to match your brand’s specific Pantone colours and they will primarily be for display, low fire printing is the best option. On the other hand, if durability is key and the item will see regular use, high fire printing is the ideal solution.

Both methods deliver beautiful, high-quality results, so no matter what your needs are, we have the right printing solution for you.
